Rest In Peace, Elsa.
Elsa came to us in November of 2014. She was foaled in approximately 1996, stood 13.1hh and weighted less than 600 pounds when she came to us.
She was one of several horses taken to a local stable for sale. The stable owner contacted two rescues for assistance.
The stable owner paid $200 for the lot of horses and many were in bad shape.
Elsa was quickly evaluated by our team and vets. It was determined she had arthritis in her legs and joints.
She also had sores bilaterally on her hips from laying down with no muscle tone, which rubbed her hide raw.
You can see here, her legs are misshapen. As she put on weight, her arthritis became more and more unbearable.
Our board of directors, at the advice of our vet, determined it was best to humanely euthanize Elsa in January of 2015 as there was no viable option to relieve her pain
