Experience the thrill of working on a horse rescue, learning vital techniques and building awareness in our chore training & ranch safety session. Get hands-on with daily chores, gain valuable skills, and be surrounded by the beauty of our pastures. After just 30 hours, you’ll have the opportunity to become more involved in this incredible rescue and continue making a difference in the lives of these incredible animals. All the team asks of you is your respect for our processes, your willingness to be a team player, and your desire to make a difference for the Hope herd.
To volunteer, you must be at least 18 years of age and complete a two-step training program before beginning your volunteer service.
Step 1: Attend orientation (10 am) on the first Saturday of the month, September through May (no sessions in December, June, July, or August). You will learn about Hope In The Valley from the rescue’s beginnings, to our current state, and plans for the future. Learn what is expected of you and what you can expect as a member of the Hope Team. Upon completion of orientation you will be asked to sign up for a weekly 3-hour chore shift, your choice of the day of the week, Monday through Sunday.
Step 2: You will then be expected to attend a chore training & ranch safety session, held at at 10 am on the second Saturday of the month, September through May (no sessions in December, June, July, or August). In this two-hour training session you will experience all the daily chores, learn techniques, and build awareness for working in the pastures. This session focuses on safety and introduces you to the basics of working on a horse rescue. It is labor intensive, giving you a taste of what to expect from ranch work. Upon completion you will begin your chore schedule the following week. On your first chore day you will be connected with a “buddy” to work with you through your first 30 hours. After your first 30 hours, the staff will meet with you to discuss your experience up to that point and share your options for becoming more involved in the rescue.
