The Adoption Process

If you are looking to adopt a horse you came to the right place! Many great horses are looking for their special person and a home to spend the rest of their days.  The adoption process is outlined below.

  1. Once you find an equine(s) you are interested in, please reach out Facebook messenger or via email to adoptions@hitveras.org for more information and/or to schedule your first visit.

  2. On your first visit you will be given a tour of the facility, meet the Hope herd, and in particular meet the equine(s) you have interest in.  If you decide to move forward with the adoption process you will be asked to complete an adoption application at that time.

  3. Upon receipt, review, and approval of your application the team will reach out to you to schedule your second, more extensive visit with the equine(s) you have an interest in.

  4. On your second visit, you can enjoy quality hands-on time.  If you plan to ride, please bring your tack with you. It is then highly recommended that you make an appointment for a third visit, before making your final decision to adopt.

  5. Your third visit provides you with additional time for ground handling, riding, and to ask additional questions before making your decision.  We take seriously the decision of adopting a horse as it is life changing for you and for them.  If you wish to adopt.  The Hope Team must agree that the adoption is a good match before the contract can be completed, adoption fees paid, and arrangements can be made for pick up or delivery.  The delivery fee is $1.50 per loaded mile.

In Sanctuary

Sanctuary is a place of safety, of refuge, and has been given to a few very special equines.  We have promised them that they may live what is left of their lives in the loving space of Hope.  These are rare and special cases like Stormy our retired champion 3D barrel racer found starving in a pasture.  Doc, our sweet old donkey who shares the message of Hope with rescue visitors and can be seen at community events.  And Jackson our sweet 36+ year old mule who needed Hope when his family could no longer care for him.
